Locomotion Commotion

So, how about those Oscars? I say this sarcastically as I missed the majority of them hugging the porcelain god. Yup, I got THE BUG. The one that everyone says "oh yeah, I had that _______ (fill in blank - last Sunday, last week, etc.). I swore it was food poisoning, but after talking to several people today at work (I had to call in sick yesterday), it seems as if 1 in 4 people has been affected with it. Yuck - it SUCKED! I hate throwing up more than anything, mostly because I think I do it wrong and am not sure how to breathe and throw up at the same time so I panic because I swear I am going to suffocate and nobody will be able to save me! Yup, that's pretty much what runs through my head when I get sick like that. Sad how my mind wanders, isn't it?

Anyway, a quick post with a few pics as Grandma and Grandpa were here to visit and they took Gavin to one of his favorite pastimes - Locomotion Commotion! Our Parents as Teachers program offers "classes" every so often to take age appropriate children to and most of them involve arts & crafts, singing, exploring, etc. One of them, the title of the post, is basically just an hour of free time in the gym! Now, for a 2 1/2 year old who loves nothing better than to run, they probably should have named it "heavenly commotion" or something similar. The first one we took Gavin to, we really didn't know what to expect, so I bundled him up and off we went. Since the kid never stopped running the ENTIRE hour, and I had him dressed for a brisk walk in 40 degree weather, his face was as red as a tomato and I thought he would pass out from heat exhaustion at any moment. I have since learned to dress him differently and to bring a bottle of water and force him to take hydration breaks! His face is usually still beat red by the end of the session, but I know that he is hydrated and relatively cool. Anyway, Grandma and Grandpa took him yesterday (while I slept my sickness off) and they all had a grand time. Luckily Grandma brought her camera because I kept forgetting to and apparently this is the last one he can do with the "little" kids. Next year he'll join the 3-5 year old group and I'll probably have to worry about someone mowing over Gavin (unlike worrying about him mowing over another kid like I do now). Oh well, I am sure it will still be fun. So here are the pictures and while they may not be the best, realize it is hard to actually get a picture of Gavin that is not a blur and the fact that he is in a gym in a basement which is not really prime lighting!

I'll give a dig on myself today - I think I have mentioned that I grew up with barbies, dolls, strawberry shortcake, etc. right? Well, when Gavin and I began to "play cars" together, I really didn't know how to play correctly. I mean, I knew how to make the appropriate noises and such, but it really seemed as if there wasn't much to do with "playing cars". So...my cars talk. Well they carry on conversations actually. If they had clothes for matchbox, mine would have them and would always be dressed to the nines and they would talk to the other cars about their plans and were they were going and what they were doing, etc., etc. So poor Gavin will be picked on terribly once he begins playing with other little boys and they are crashing their cars into each other and dropping them off cliffs and figuring out other destructive ways to "play cars". Gavin will be trying to get the other cars to stop for a minute to discuss whether they want to go get some milk, or head to locomotion commotion and for peeks sake, to stop crashing into his cars because that can really hurt someone!
The poor kid.

  1. Bean makes his cars (and other toys) talk as well... in the sandbox last weekend, he had the shovels say "hi" to each other -- in a high voice, no less. I was cracking up when I saw the video! The key is to find someone else to blame it on. I'm on bedrest, so I know it's not MY fault! :)
