Gavin is potty trained! (knock, knock, knock)
Seriously, this kid is smart. I am constantly in awe of his intelligence and the way that he just catches on to things. I remember when he was just a baby, he began ramping up his feedings to every 2 hours and I remember thinking how terrible that was, and how often I would be heating up bottles....and then he began sleeping through the night! He just knew what to do, and his Mom just plays catch up and gets to take credit for having a good baby. So once again, Gavin has shown us what he can do. It's pretty exciting (and for all of those without kids, yes, another annoying parent going on and on about pee and poop as if it were the best thing since sliced bread) and I can't believe how quick it has happened. Now, just so you know, I fully expect us to slide backward at any point and I'll have to post about our failure after all, but for the moment, I will once again play catch up and take credit for having a good baby!
We started a couple weeks ago in earnest and had a good weekend of training. Ella came on Monday and we prepped her for the day and when I got home from work, she said he was still in the same pair of underwear from the morning! Yippy! Then, crash. He wouldn't eat dinner that night and I thought, Hmm, strange. At about 7:30pm, we were just about to head upstairs to bed and Gavin opens his mouth in the living room and loses his cookies. Yup, the stomach bug that we had avoided thus far. It only lasted about 5 hours and 3 pajamas, but it was a LONG night and I just felt so bad for the guy. He didn't eat for 2 days, and just wasn't quite himself. Unfortunately, I had to leave for a business trip on Wednesday, and I felt terrible for leaving him, but we was on the upswing by that point, so we were lucky. So basically, we gave up on potty training for the week until he was feeling better. Flash forward to this past week and we started up again and thanks to the efforts of Miss Ella and Nana, Gavin wore big boy underwear all week and no longer has to be asked if he has to go to the bathroom. In fact, he makes me a big nervous how long he can go between bathroom trips, but he hasn't failed us thus far (knock, knock, knock).
As for anything else exciting around these parts....not much. It's been cold and grey and I heard someone say that we had one day of sun in the past 12 days. Yuck. I'll post some pictures now and try not to laugh at Gavin posing in his briefs!

When he has his superhero pj's on, he feels he can leap tall cribs in a single bound!

WOO HOO! Way to go, Gavin and mama and the rest of the support team. :)
ReplyDeleteI fantasize about the day Bean will be potty trained. But several of my friends are constantly struggling with their kids, and I'd rather just wait until he's good and ready -- maybe it'll be relatively smooth for us too!!
way to go Gavin!!
