A visit with Carson

Where does time go? I have been meaning to update this for weeks now and I just don't seem to find the time to sit, type and download pictures. There is a ton of stuff to talk about, but I think I'll break it up into a few posts so I have something to write every once in a while. Life here has been VERY busy! My work has been very demanding lately and I feel as if all I have been doing is going to work, playing with Gavin until he goes to bed, doing a little more work and then going to bed. Not really much of a life right now, but hopefully it will slow down soon. We are looking forward to a visit from Grandpa Gary and Grandma Carol next weekend and then Aunt Jennifer the weekend after. Jennifer is doing great with her pregnancy and all ultrasounds, tests, etc. have shown a growing and thriving baby! This is all we've prayed for so we are very thankful!

We were able to get together with Carson from the NICU last weekend so the boys could see each other again. It's amazing how well both boys are doing and how neither one of them look anything like a NICU baby - Carson is off the charts tall! I tell his mom Amy that he never looks like the same kid - he has changed so much from the little guy we knew way back when. Even Amy agreed that Gavin never changes, but just seems to look a little older each time, but basically looks the same as he did 2 1/2 years ago! We went to the Whittle Train store to play with trains and then out to lunch. Carson hoarded all the toys and Gavin wanted whatever Carson was playing with, so it was a lunch full of "compromise", which is not a strength of either one. Carson, just today, got a new baby sister, Sydney! Amy is doing well and we send her whole family our congratulations - this is #5 for them, which personally gives me hives, but she shrugs it off as if it's nothing!

Did I tell you that we signed Gavin up for preschool this fall? The church that we attend has a christian school and in the fall they will begin offering a 2 year old class. He will go Tuesday and Thursday mornings for 3 hours. He will be 3 a month after school starts, so I think he will do great! I was originally going to enroll him just one 1/2 day a week, but Brenda and Larry are going to be travelling more and she has decided to cut down to one day a week watching Gavin. So lots of changes coming this fall, but Jon and I are excited for Gavin. I really think he will enjoy being around other kids and doing projects - he has had a great 2 1/2 years with Ella and Nana being at his beck and call, but learning to share and be part of a class will be good for him too!

One quick Gavin story - the other day Gavin kept asking for his "teeny tiny blue car". He actually has a "teeny tiny WHITE car" which is this miniature hot wheels car, so we kept asking are you sure you don't mean a white car? No, he was very adamant that it was a blue car he was looking for. We scoured through all 52 hot wheels cars he has and held up each and every blue car trying to find the ONE he was looking for. He went to bed that night still looking for the car we could not find. The next day I told Nana to pay attention to see if he calls any of his cars the "teeny tiny blue car". Jon was traveling and as he was driving home, he discovered a blue car in his console and he was wondering if that could possibly be the one he was looking for? It was a blue mustang and when he got home, he asked Gavin if that was the one he was looking for? It WAS the right one and it was teeny tiny compared to an oversized blue mustang he has. In fact, maybe a week ago, Gavin was asking for a blue car when he was going to sleep and, as I've talked about before, he is very specific in what he wants and sometimes you can make 3 or 4 trips upstairs just trying to find the exact car he needs to go to sleep. He kept turning down the blue cars I offered and I finally had to get him to be a bit more specific.

"Which blue car, Gavin?"

"The one with the wheels."

Helpful. "Which blue car with wheels, Gavin?"

"The one that Jackie gave Gavin." (Jackie is Ella's daughter and she has visited him a few times.) Now, I don't know of a car that Jackie gave Gavin, so I am still confused.

"Is it a big car or a little car?"

"The one Jackie gave Gavin." He's getting a little panicky at this point.

We went through all the blue cars he had in his hot wheels case and none of them were it. Finally, I offered him the oversized blue mustang that Lisa Murray gave him for Christmas and low and behold, it was the right one. Since he sees both Lisa and Jackie infrequently, I can't blame him for the mix up and they both have dark long hair, so an easy mistake for a 2 year old.

BUT he's going to give me grey hair.

It snowed again this month and Gavin loves walking in it whenever possible.

Valentine's Day - a new Mickey cell phone. He's grinning as Mickey talks to himAunt Barb and Uncle Frank sent some bath time paints and he never misses the opportunity to paint a little of each color! The Whittle Train store (aka the sniffling-sneezing-coughing-disease filled-place where we are going to get some type of cold from each visit. We are on day 3 now of congestion, runny nose and cough. Yippy.) Gavin and Carson - 2 1/2 years old. Neither is big into smiling. Notice Carson hoarding the toys and Gavin holding Carson's train that Amy just bought him!
