Happy 6th Birthday Gavin!

Yup, right on time with these posts.  BUT if I don't over think it and don't write a ton, I might be able to get through the past few months in the next few weeks and then I'll only be a little behind!  Gavin turned 6 and since I'm not an every year big birthday party kind of Mom, I thought it would be nice if we just had the family over for dinner and then on his birthday (a Tuesday), we'd just head to Chuck E. Cheese as a family for some fun.  Which is what we did, with one little change - Gavin wanted his best friends Abby, Ally and Josh to come too.  Jon was stressing that we are invited to so many birthday parties would we be offending friends by not inviting them to some type of big birthday celebration.  I really wasn't up to a big party and when Gavin asked for a few friends, I was happy with that compromise.  Plus, Gavin's not really into the big party scene and he gets overwhelmed so easy and tends to get hyper and then it turns out not fun for all of us.  I KNEW we made the right decision when on the way home Gavin said "Thank you so much for my birthday Mommy - I had the awesomest birthday ever!".  I actually cried because it was so kind and he seemed so happy!  Sometimes we parents forget that our kids don't need what we think they need and are not who we think they are and sometimes the best things for them are what they choose for themselves.  He had a happy birthday and that made me happy.

I also was able to join Gavin for lunch at school on his birthday - brought him his favorite Culver's and we sat with some of his friends and just had a silly lunch together.  His lunch is 20 minutes long!  No wonder he comes home with food in his bag each day...I could barely scarf down my food before we were packing up and he had to head to his next class.  Whew, that was a whirlwind!
