.4, 4 and 40

So I'm late in posting again!  We had a big birthday weekend at our house - Gavin turned 4 years old, Harper turned 4 months and Jon turned 40!!  Also, Gavin's birthday was 9-10-11 for the first and only time in his life, so how's that for lucky numbers.  We had a busy weekend with family in town but it was good weather and we had a great time.  We all went bowling (one of Gavin's favorite activities) and then came home to a delicious (late) dinner of beef tenderloin and chocolate cake!  Gavin just said to me yesterday how he got so many nice, new toys to play with.  Jon and I bought him a bike, a blue one, of course.  I was asking Gavin before his birthday what he wanted for his birthday and he said "A bike.  A blue bike.  A NEW blue bike." (emphasis on the NEW).  Got it...would now be the time to mention that Jon found his awesome "new" bike on Craig's list?

Gavin seems to really enjoy full day pre-school and I can even get him to share information if I tell him he only has to answer 3 questions!  I guess if I ask too many questions he tunes out but if he knows that there will only be 3 questions, he is willing to talk.  Jon used to call me 20 questions while we were dating, so maybe Gavin gets overwhelmed with my pumping him for information.  If only they had a video feed that I could check in on when he is in school, just so I could see him in action.
Gavin had a funny story about God...Gavin told me that he didn't like God. I told him, "Oh no, God is good. Why don't you like God?"  Gavin said "He said to not eat from the tree."  I said, "Oh, he told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit from the tree."  Mmm hmm. And did they listen? No. I asked him what happened when they didn't listen to God. Gavin said "they got a time out"!   So apparently he's listening to the bible stories.

My Mom and Dad were here for the birthday and then they stayed on as I took Jon to Vegas for the big 4 0!  We left on Friday morning and had a fun weekend eating well, staying in a swanky hotel and seeing a couple concert/shows.  Jon won money on black jack and I lost money on Let it Ride....good thing I am not much of a gambler or else I would have cancelled his winnings. The weather was nice and we had a good time with just the two of us.  Gavin and Harper had fun with the grandparents while we were away so it made our time away easier.

Harper is such a joy filled baby!  Her smiles are huge and toothless and she has this sweet little deep giggle that makes you laugh.  She is 4 months old, 18 pounds and 26+ inches long!  She has started to grow her new hair and so her newborn hair now looks like a comb over - I'm thinking I should cut it off so she only has her new growth, but those few long strands allow me to attach a bow every once in a while.  She's trying to figure out rolling over (now that she's mastered lifting up on her arms) but hasn't really been able to complete it yet.  We've started feeding her rice cereal now and won't be long until we are on to her first foods.  She's also trying to sit up and is constantly straining to sit straight up in her bouncy chair, but then she also spits up a lot, so the sitting up puts pressure on her belly and it all comes up.  But overall she is a very happy baby and hardly ever cries.  Gavin seems to be getting better at the big brother thing and isn't quite as rough or loud as he has been.

Here's the pic's!

  1. Happy Birthday Jon & Gavin! So jealous of your trip away to Vegas. Rob and I need to get back there.
Baron is SOO SOO envious of Gavin's blue bike. He was jumping up and down saying, is that for me!?!?! A little disappointed when I told him it was Gavin's and not his. He is now asking me daily when his party is.
I love Harper's monthly pics with the shirts, what a great idea!
