So here's how our day went. I took the day off so I could do the drop off and pick up on his first day, as Miss Ella will be picking him up from now on. I had to wake Gavin up at 7am because he is not the quickest mover right when he wakes up and I wanted to give him time to get rolling before we had to leave at 8am. He did well, but he did tell me that he didn't want to play with the toys at pre-school. We had a good morning and got off without a hitch, almost too early as we were only the 2nd people to arrive for school. Gavin immediately ran over to the car hauler he had spied at the "meet the teacher" event on Monday night. But he quickly moved on to the school bus as a favorite. In fact he made his teacher and aide laugh because he brought the school bus over to the table and did his happy dance for a minute, then clasped his hands together and said "Oh...My....Goodness"! Like he'd never been happier in all his life.
Speaking of his teachers, Gavin was being anti-pictures today so I didn't get a picture of him with them, but they both seem very nice. His main teacher is Mrs. Nemkovich (which Gavin of course has no trouble pronouncing), and his aide is Mrs. Lehr. Right when we got there this morning, Mrs. Lehr plopped down right next to Gavin to play with the trucks with him, so that was nice. I told Gavin to give me a big hug and kiss (which he did!!) and I would be back in 3 hours to pick him up. He barely gave me a glance goodbye as I walked out. I thought for sure he would break down 5 minutes later, once he realized I wasn't there, but apparently he was having too much fun (which is great!). I spent the next 3 QUICK hours running errands trying to get ready for his birthday party in a month. I thought I would have so much time on my one free day off, but I was constantly just trying to rush to get it all in before the 3 hour mark hit. I almost made it.
When I picked him up, he had made an art project. And when I say art project, I mean a piece of paper with one crayon swirl, one dash of watercolor and lots of glue stick. Mrs. Nemkovich said that she kept telling him that he needed to put paper on the glue to make a picture, but he was having none of that. That sounds about right - his way or the highway and why put paper over glue when you can just keep adding more and more stickiness to the paper? It was cute though and I hung it on our bulletin board. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when he starts bringing home all this crap art home…..
After our first day, we celebrated with lunch at Chick-fil-A with Daddy and then headed home for an overdue nap. All in all, I think it was a great first day of pre-school! Here's the pictures he would LET me take. Augh.
Breakfast to give us energy…to tell your Mom to not take any pictures!
